Not only will you be laughing out loud at some of the stories that are shared– you’ll also be learning several new key understandings about all of your favorite NLP concepts and techniques such as: eye accessing cues, anchoring, perceptual positions, the meta-model, re-imprinting and much, much more.

This DVD program was filmed live in San Francisco in 2009, with Robert Dilts and Tim Hallbom, who are internationally recognized experts in the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Here is your opportunity to take an incredible journey through the early days of NLP with two people who were there as it was being developed.

Robert Dilts has been involved with NLP since its creation in 1975, and was a long time student and colleague of NLP co-founders John Grinder and Richard Bandler. He also studied with Milton H. Erickson, M.D. and Gregory Bateson in the early days of NLP.

Tim Hallbom has been involved in the field since 1979 and has been delivering NLP trainings throughout the world since then. Tim also studied with Bandler, Grinder and Virginia Satir in the early days of NLP, as well as Steve and Connirae Andreas.

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED...

• What kind of work did John Grinder do before he become a professor of Linguistics at the university of Santa Cruz? Here’s a hint... it involves jumping out of airplanes!

• How did NLP “really” get its name? Everyone knows that it had something to do with computers, but who would of known that Bandler and Grinder were computer dealers for Apple computers, or that Robert Dilts bought his first computer from them!

• What was Richard Bandler like as a young person? Here’s a hint... it involves listening to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, while watching Virginia Satir demonstrate magical therapy with her clients in a workshop. Ahhh, the good ole’ 1970’s, what an incredible decade!

• Where did anchoring come from, and how did it change the world? This is a fascinating story indeed that any serious student of NLP should know.

• How were eye accessing cues discovered? Here’s a hint... it involves a homework assignment that John Grinder gave Robert Dilts, when he was a student at the university of Santa Cruz.

• What was Milton Erickson like as a little boy, and how did his polio influence him in becoming one of the greatest hypnotherapists in the world? who would of ever guessed that this story involves a cow, a pasture, and a beautiful sunrise.

• What made Virginia Satir so magical as a family therapist? Here’s a hint... it has something to do with the way she moved her hands.

• What role did the famous psychologist Timothy Leary play in the developmental of Systemic NLP? you’ll be surprised to find out that it had nothing to do with LSD. Through this DVD, you’ll discover how the brilliant Leary influenced NLP– in a way that will completely surprise you.

• What other stories will be told throughout this information packed DVD program? Here’s a hint... you’ll learn all about the fascinating NLP backgrounds of Gregory Bateson, Aldous Huxley, Steve Andreas, Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir and much, much more

  1. Early Days of NLP with Robert Dilts & Tim Hallbom

Posted by Colin Davis on 12th Apr 2010

Are you interested in finding out about the early days of NLP? Well, this DVD provides a great insight into the history of NLP, from the minds of Robert Dilts and Tim Hallbom. Having known each other for over twenty years, with Robert mentioning on the DVD that he got involved in NLP during 1975, prior to it being named NLP, and Tim in 1979; these two people have a great perspective on what was going on in those days and since.
    You will learn:
    • How they got involved in NLP
    • Background information on John Grinder and Richard Bandler and how they met
    • How Richard Bandler became interested Gestalt Therapy and teamed up with John Grinder
    • How the work of people such as Gregory Bateson, Milton Erickson, Virginia Satir, and Fritz Pearl shaped NLP
    • What effect Spielberg and Hitchcock had
    • Where Timothy Leary fits in
    • When Tony Robbins got involved in NLP
The DVD lasts approximately 85 minutes and was recorded during an audience session held for people who are trained in NLP, and those who are new to it.
I found the DVD to be both informative and fun. Part of the recording focussed on an audience question and answer session, which helps to provide a deeper insight into what was happening all those years ago. Having already read the book, ‘The Wild Days of NLP 1972-1981’ by Terrence L. McClendon I was aware of some of the antics. This DVD provides additional information into what was happening and how things developed and formed into the areas of NLP that we are familiar with today.
What I would like to see in the future, is another DVD featuring some of the other people who were present in those early days, and/or have helped develop NLP over the years; passing on their insights, and experiences.
